AnneMarie Luijendijk

Bio/Description

AnneMarie Luijendijk is a Greek and Coptic papyrologist and a scholar of early Christianity. Her book Greetings in the Lord: Early Christians and the Oxyrhynchus Papyri (2008) investigates papyrus letters and documents about Christians in the Roman-era Egyptian city Oxyrhynchus. Her second book, Forbidden Oracles?, (2014), is about a previously unknown fifth- or sixth-century Coptic oracular manuscript called The Gospel of the Lots of Mary. She is currently working on a book called From Gospels to Garbage, in which she examines the readers and owners of the earliest Christian manuscripts, most of which were found on ancient garbage heaps. She is the Head of First College and serves as the Chair of the Committee for the Study of Late Antiquity.
