Christine Roughan is a Postdoctoral Research Associate affiliated with Manuscript, Rare Book & Archive Studies and the Center for Digital Humanities. Her areas of interest include the history of science, manuscript studies, and transmissions of knowledge around the ancient and medieval Mediterranean.
Christine's current research applies computational approaches to mathematical and scientific manuscript material. During her postdoctoral term at Princeton, she is leveraging deep learning tools to classify and analyze visual data from digitized manuscripts. This project focuses in particular on paratextual material (marginalia, diagrams, tables, etc) in codices of Arabic scientific texts.
She is happy to meet for consultations via the CDH, especially on topics related to digital or computational approaches to premodern texts.
